Past Events: Getty Center Lecture
Dr. Klapper held a standing room only lecture at the Getty Center in the Museum Lecture Hall on Sunday, September 11, 2011 entitled: “Michelangelo’s Sculptures: How He Manipulated Anatomy.”
Dr. Klapper is an orthopedic surgeon and a sculptor who travels to Carrara, Italy, every summer to work on the very stone Michelangelo used to carve his works David and the Pietá. This lecture explored the ways in which Michelangelo used his knowledge of human anatomy to depict emotion from solid rock.
